A Rolba / Zamboni

Frank Zamboni ( Eureka , 16 January 1901 - Paramount , 27 July 1988 ) was an entrepreneur U.S. , a native Italian , famous for scoring the Rolba , a machine to smooth the surface of the ice rinks, also known under the name "Zamboni ".

Zamboni was born in 1901 in Eureka , in Utah , the son of immigrant Italian . His parents bought a farm in Lava Hot Springs, near Pocatello , in ' Idaho , where he lived until 1920 , when he moved with his family to Los Angeles , where his older brother George had a machine shop. Frank then attended a trade school in Chicago and in 1922 founded a factory of electrical supplies along with his younger brother Lawrence. The following year he married, the marriage would have been born three children.

In 1927 Frank and Lawrence added to the factory a plant for the manufacture of ice and started selling blocks of ice, continued the business until 1939 , since when, with the advent of electric refrigerators, decided to use the equipment in excess of the factory to open an ice rink . The track opened in 1940 and immediately became very popular, partly because Frank had devised a new way to eliminate the ripples caused by the piping necessary to maintain the ice rink, an invention for which he obtained a patent in 1946 .

In 1949 Zamboni invented a machine, operated by a single person, capable of smoothing a track in 10 minutes (compared to the 40 previous minutes, which was required in the work of three people). He requested the patent in the same year and founded the company Frank J. Zamboni & Co. to build and deploy the machine. Obtained a patent four years later, in 1953 , and the car was so successful that the company opened a second plant in Brantford in ' Ontario and a subsidiary office in Switzerland . The name Zamboni even became synonymous with Rolba and is still used as a synonym.

Over 70 years Zamboni also invented the machine to remove water from outdoor artificial lawns, remove strips of paint and lift and lay artificial turf in stadiums closed. His latest invention, in 1983 , he was a machine to automatically remove accumulations of ice from the edges of the slopes.

He died of lung cancer in 1988 , two months after his wife's death. In 2006 Zamboni was inserted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame . [1] In 2009 it was incorporated into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame . [2]

They're impractical and uncool

The only white footwear you'll ever catch me wearing is a pair of figure skates. other than that, forget it.
white shoes/boots get scuff marks on them easier, and dirt shows up on them more readily than those which are darker colored.
they make your feet look like you've stuck them in empty kleenex boxes.
they tend to make feet look bigger, and they just look silly...like you're either a healthcare worker, or an old lady in orthopedic shoes. they just make your feet look clunky, no matter what the style.
on little girls, white patent leather mary janes are ok, as are little sandals
